Community Memory Project

Preserving Our Past, Shaping Our Future

The Miami-Dade Public Library System's Digital Collections Community Memory Project is an initiative aimed at collecting, preserving and digitizing the rich heritage of our community.

We invite you to be a part of our Community Memory Project by sharing personal photographs, letters, memorabilia, objects and more. Whether it’s a cherished heirloom or a snapshot of a bygone era, your memories will become a part of a digital archive that will help tell the story of our community and be accessible for generations to come.

Basic Criteria

  • Materials dating up to December 31, 1999 and earlier
  • Not under copyright
  • Materials of collective, personal or historical significance

Accepted Formats*

  • Photographs
  • Negatives
  • Slides
  • Postcards
  •  Letters
  • Scrapbooks
  • Printed materials
  •  Small and large objects

Formats Currently Not Accepted

  •  Audio and video cassettes
  •  CDs/DVDs/Tapes

    *Submitted items will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Contributions should be presented in person, by appointment, at the Digital Collections Lab located at the Main Library, 101 W Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130.

Once digitized, the original items will be carefuly returned. A high-resolution copy of the digital file, will also be provided through cloud service. All participants must sign a Contribution Form acknowledging the use and release of digitized items.
